The Film Club

My 36 in 360 goals are coming along nicely! I have officially completed 5 of my goals, with many more in the works.

One of my goals is to read five non-fiction books this year, mainly just to broaden my knowledge and force myself to read books that I normally wouldn't pick up.

My brother G. suggested checking out "The Film Club" by David Gilmour because it has been shortlisted for the Charles Taylor Prize this year (winner to be picked on March 3rd).

I liked this book quite a bit! I gave it 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. The story is about how David allows his 16 year old son to drop out of school, with the agreement that they will watch 3 movies a week together. It was a quick, light, humourous read. And I now have a list of 16 movies that I want to watch! It might have been better if I was an old movie buff and could relate to what they were saying about the movies, but I still really enjoyed it!

Many people on Goodreads gave this book terrible reviews, saying it was "a self-serving craptastic piece of writing" or "God awful" or "pompous". I passed this book on to M. to read, so we'll see what he thinks when he's done! Go see for yourself!
