Ports of Call (Con't)

Where did I leave off yesterday? Oh yes, port number three on our cruise..

3) Grenada
Grenada is referred to as "Spice Island" because it's famous for growing nutmeg, cinnamon, etc. We only stayed on the island a couple of hours because it was so hot and we didn't feel like taking a taxi to go sightseeing. We basically walked around, climbed up to Fort George, bought nutmeg, then headed back to the ship for a dip in the pool to cool off! Grenada looks so pretty, with its pastel houses overlooking the water.
4) Tobago
M and I were very excited for Tobago because we had big plans to go to Pigeon Point beach, take a ride on a glass bottom boat and snorkel! We bought our tickets, but unfortunately, the water did not cooperate with us. In a matter of an hour the beach went from calm to having huge swells. Basically, you could not pay me a million dollars to go on a boat in those conditions! It was crazy. This did not stop M though, and here he is boarding the boat. I relaxed on the beach and watched people nearly drown in the waves :) Darn you, weather!
After leaving the beach we decided to walk around the streets close to where we had to board the cruise ship, and let's just say it was a tad bit sketchy. We lasted 15 minutes!

5) Barbados
This was my second favourite port! When we got to Barbados we took a taxi to a beach that we heard had good snorkeling. Once we swam out a third of a mile from shore, we came to two shipwrecks. You could clearly make out all part of the ship, the anchor, etc. Very, very cool. Barbados had the most beautiful water of all the ports, in my opinion!

Next we went to Bert's Bar, which is the official Caribbean headquarters of the Ottawa Senators. M just had to see this place, so we stopped in for lunch. There was Sens stuff everywhere you looked!
We were in Barbados on New Year's Eve day, so it was extremely busy on the roads! Everyone was running around doing last minute shopping.

So there you have it. Our five ports. Fun!

  1. It looks like you had fun at all the ports you went to. Were you nervous waiting for M to return to shore?

  2. Nah, I wasn't nervous. I could still see the boat way out there in the water!

  3. Yeah - another Senators fan represented at Bert's Bar - Mike must have been thrilled! Was there a guest book?

So question - were you allowed to bring the nutmeg home with you? I'm picturing nutmeg sniffing dogs at the airport. Its a strange world......... ;)

  4. Marina, I don't remember there being a guest book. The restaurant is just massive and it was fairly busy that day. It also seemed like they have some sort of hotel as well?

We did bring the nutmeg home - we have some for you! I don't think we mentioned it on the customs form and luckily, no dogs!
