Niagara VS Camping

To celebrate our anniversary M and I wanted to do something, anything! Our first idea was to go to Niagara-on-the-Lake, stay at a bed and breakfast, have a nice dinner, and go to some wineries. That would have been great I'm sure, but also quite expensive.

Here are some rough estimates about the costs of staying in Niagara.

Hotel: $200
Wine Tours: $40
Dinner: $75
Other Meals: $60
Total: $375

Spending that much for one night seems like a lot so we started thinking about different options and came up with camping. Camping is relatively cheap as long as you have the supplies!

Here's what we spent for one night of camping.

Campsite: $45
Wood: $15
Propane: $5
Groceries: $25
Total: $90

Way better! They are two very different experiences, one WAY more luxurious than the other, but both good times. If you're married, do you remember your first wedding anniversary? What did you do?

  1. Now you have me thinking. Well it will be 5 years this August that me and John have been married. I can't even remember what we did for our first anniversary. How sad is that LOL!!! Looks like you save a bit by going camping. Happy Anniversary, my does time fly by quickly.

  2. I really don't remember what we did for our 1st anniversary but I know it wasn't camping or a winery tour. Likely just a dinner out somewhere since back in those days I really couldnt cook!!

  3. I'm with Marina... probably was a dinner out... the only real anniversary I can remember is our tenth anniversary. I was pregnant for you and we decided to go to Niagara Falls with our three little boys all under the age of six. It was a crazy anniversary... but fun!!

  4. I had a friend's baby shower and Josh had to work. When I got home he surprised me by getting off early and making me delicious Italian pasta and buying me a bouquet of yellow and red roses. I can't believe we're going on three years this fall and now we have a beautiful daughter. Can't wait for you to meet Stella. Time flies!
