Berry Picking

One of the best things about my parents living out in the boonies is the U-Pick fruit farms. Apples, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries - you name it, you can find a place not too far away to pick your own.

Earlier this week my parents and I found ourselves at Millar Berry Farms, hitching a ride on the tractor to be brought out the strawberry patch.
The strawberries were bright and beautiful and the pickings still aplenty.
The fragrance of a strawberry patch is amazing and if you've never tasted a freshly picked strawberry, straight from the plant and still warm from the sun.. well you are missing out.

For some reason, every time I look at the below picture of my mom I think she's in Africa. It might be the shirt. Rawr.
Here I am trying to hide and eat my strawberry in peace. You have to try at least one to make sure it's not rotten, right?
Half an hour later and $17 poorer, we were set with a load of strawberries to last a normal family two weeks, but mine, more like two days :)
I've been eating copious amounts of strawberries on my morning oatmeal and loving every bite. Strawberry picking will last another week or two, so get out there before it's too late!

  1. Too lazy to pick this year but I did have some fresh berries from the farmers market. You're right - there's nothing like them!!

  2. I wonder if I will ever make it to Africa?? lol
I love eating the strawberries right out in the field. I'm sure that your dad should be weighed before and after he picks. We stopped by the same place yesterday and the picking was very sparse... I think strawberry season is over for this year.
