Kilimanjaro: Getting There

So, after two 8 hour flights and a 4 hour layover in Amsterdam, we are here in Tanzania!

Our flights were uneventful (always the best kind), it took us about 20 minutes to get our visas, we waited one minute for our luggage and then found the guy who was picking us up from Team Kilimanjaro. The drive to our hotel took about 45 minutes.

We are doing well so far with the 8 hour time difference from Chicago and just went to bed at the normal time here which was really only 2pm!

M and I met with our climber guide tonight to go over a few details and we're all set to leave for the mountain tomorrow morning!

Follow our progress up Kilimanjaro here if you'd like (our group name is JICO: http://www.teamkilimanjaro.com/track-a-kilimanjaro-climber.html

Wish us luck :)

  5. Do you recommend getting your visa upon arrival? It sounds like there was no problem..Is the cost the same vs getting the visa ahead of time? Thank you for the information! I am climbing January 13th.

  6. Yes! Getting our visas upon arrival was no problem at all. Bring a pen and step into the line while you're still completing the form they give you (just make sure you're ready by the time you get to the front).

I'm not sure about the cost difference for getting the visa in advance but you can find out more info at the Tanzanian embassy website : http://www.tanzaniaembassy-us.org/tzevisa.html

I do know that as a Canadian I paid $50, but if you're from the USA it's $100/person. All the info is on the website!

    Have a great climb :)
