(The End of) Summer Lovin'

Here are a few things I've loved lately. Summer 2009 Edition.

1. Scentportables from Bath & Body Works
Over the past few months my car grew a smell of "boy". Yes, that's right. You know the smell. A mixture of hockey equipment and fraternity brothers. I picked a scentportable up last week in the vanilla coconut scent and it's magnificent. My car smells edible.

2. Salads with blue cheese
What on earth? I used to hate blue cheese, now I'm addicted. I have been making this salad a lot lately: Spinach, blueberries or pear, and a little blue cheese sprinkled on top. Sometimes I'll add veggies but it seems to take away from the taste! For the dressing I mix together balsamic vinegar, a bit of oil, a drop of honey, and some dijon mustard to hold it all together. Really good!

3. Jason Segel
I'm obsessed. He is adorable in every which way. If you haven't already watched "I Love You Man", what are you waiting for?? I'm currently on the third season of "How I Met Your Mother" and lovin it.

Want to see some other things I like? I can never remember things I want/like when gift giving times come around, so I made a wishlist. Maybe now I won't end up asking for socks like I usually do! Not that there's anything wrong with socks. New socks are great.

A Hidden Gem

Have you ever thought about what you might do if you were diagnosed with a terminal illness? Seek treatment? Go on a big trip? Stay in bed? Quit work?

A few nights ago M and I watched this movie, One Week. It's a Canadian indie film about a guy who finds out he's dying and decides to go on a cross-country motorcycle ride. I found it really interesting to see all things Canadian and the soundtrack was awesome! I'm going to have to go make myself a copy of it for sure.
It's one of the best dramas I've seen in a long while and possibly up there as a favourite in general. Go rent it! If you're already seen it, what'd ya think?

Movie Mania

M and I have been movie maniacs lately! It's been fun!

First, after you see I Love You Man, go see The Hangover, it is HILARIOUS! It's not just (all) stupid funny either, it's actually funny funny. Stay to watch the credits. I give this movie an A.

The last movie we received from Rogers Direct was Milk. We started this fairly late at night and I didn't fall asleep, which is saying a lot! Good movie and I can't believe this story took place only 30 years ago. Sickening. A-

One time when M was jabbering away at me I heard him say he wanted to see The Orphanage, which is a Spanish horror flick. I placed a hold on it at the library and picked it up last night to watch. It was spooky. I liked it. B+

I'm not a huge fan of Disney or animated movies, but Up was quite good. I read a lot of reviews talking about how it was the best movie ever, and I can't agree with that, but it was a cool movie to see, especially in 3D. B+ or almost A-

Can you tell we enjoy movies?

Borrowing movies from the library is pure genius, me thinks. I often do this for girly movies or old classics that I know M won't want to watch. If you have never done this and live close to a library, like me, you should try it!

Furry Brows

We went to see "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and here are two things I noticed:

1) Hugh Jackman has very expressive eyebrows.

My Movie Marathon

A few weeks ago, in this post, I was mentioning how after reading The Film Club by David Gilmour I have a long list of movies that I want to watch. I requested a bunch of titles from the library and so far four of them have come it! Love the library!

Here's my lineup: The Late Show, A Hard Day's Night, Mean Streets, Quiz Show

Last night I decided to give A Hard Day's Night a whirl. Well... that movie is just plain weird! I didn't really understand the whole grandfather on the train storyline, but the parts with music were good! M is not a fan of The Beatles, but I was still shocked to find out he didn't know most of the songs that were being played. I truly thought everyone knew The Beatles. He says he grew up listening to Deep Purple and Tears for Fears, so I guess we're just different in that way.

Long ago, I remember my mom telling me how she went to see this movie when she was a young girl and everyone was screaming at the screen. I had to call her up tonight to get some more details. We had a funny conversation, because I just don't get how people went so crazy - I think it's hilarious and wish I was alive to have seen it!! She says her fave was George because he was the handsome, shy type. But Paul was okay too. Ah, my mom's so cute.

Life in 3-D

3D movies are cool!

We just got back from watching "My Bloody Valentine" - it was my first time watching something in 3D. The story itself was alright but the visuals were excellent and super freaky! I had to partly hide under my coat a few times. Only go see it if you like gory horror flicks. I think those are M's favourite type!

Here M. is, styling his new glasses. I think he really likes them because he even wore them after we got home??
